Our Privacy Commitment
Sound Meter is built around a simple idea: your audio stays on your device. The application runs entirely in your browser. No recordings, measurements, or audio streams ever reach our servers or any third party.
What We Process Locally
- Microphone audio is analyzed frame-by-frame in real time and immediately discarded.
- Measurement statistics (min, max, average, history) live only in browser memory and are cleared when you close the tab.
- Settings (calibration offset, theme preference, last-used language) are saved to your browser's localStorage. They are never transmitted.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not record your audio.
- We do not upload any data to any server.
- We do not use analytics or tracking cookies.
- We do not share information with third parties because we have none to share.
Microphone Permission
Measurement tools require microphone access. You grant this through your browser's permission prompt. You can revoke it at any time through your browser or operating system settings. Revoking it does not delete anything — there is nothing to delete.
Accuracy & Use at Your Own Risk
This tool provides estimated sound level readings. It is not a calibrated Class 1 or Class 2 sound level meter and should not be used for legal, medical, occupational safety, or regulatory purposes. Always verify critical measurements with certified equipment.
Terms of Use
By using Sound Meter you agree to use it for lawful, personal, or educational purposes. You agree not to reverse engineer, redistribute the hosted version without permission, or use the tool in a way that could harm other users' devices.
